Our History

We believe great banking is about building lasting relationships and providing the financial resources to help our customers achieve their individual and business goals.

Founded in 1919, Presence Bank is a state-chartered FDIC bank that provides the most up-to-date financial products and services accessible online or in person. We offer deposit and loan accounts for every stage of life, so individuals and families can count on building a relationship at a bank they can trust for years to come. Our business accounts are created with our clients in mind, whether an emerging entrepreneur or well-established company.

  1. 1919

    Presence Bank begins as the “Industrial Building and Loan Association” in Coatesville, PA. Founded by 15 individuals with pooled resources of about $200, the association offers the underserved a chance at home ownership.

  2. 1926

    The association merges with Steel City Building and Loan and goes on to survive the 1929 stock market crash and the Great Depression.

  3. 1977

    After more than a half-century of successful operation in the Coatesville area, the association that came to be known as Coatesville Federal Savings and Loan opens its first branch office in the New Holland Shopping Center in Lancaster County.

  4. 1991

    The official name of the association is Coatesville Savings Bank after it becomes a state-chartered institution.

  5. 1996

    Coatesville Savings Bank opens its Oxford branch, serving southern Chester and Lancaster Counties.

  6. 2007

    The bank establishes a new branch office along Georgetown Road in Christiana.

  7. 2020

    Coatesville Savings Bank announces a new name with the same great people. Presence Bank begins offering expanded personal and business services across Chester, Lancaster, Dauphin, Cumberland, and Lebanon Counties.

As CEO and President, Janak leads the team at Presence Bank with values-driven principles that he has cultivated throughout two decades of executive leadership experience in the banking industry in Pennsylvania and Florida. With a focus on enabling a pathway to financial success for associates, customers, and communities, he has built a culture that values knowledge, inclusiveness, integrity, and accountability. A graduate of The Wharton School Advanced Management Program, Janak received his MBA from Penn State University and BA in Accounting, Business Management, and Economics from the University of Liverpool. Janak has served on the Boards of Holy Spirit Hospital, Harrisburg Symphony, Susquehanna Art Museum, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of Central PA, and as Board Chairman of the Hindu American Religious Institute. He resides in Exton with his wife, Alka, and their two daughters.

As Chief Banking Officer, Doug is responsible for overseeing and nurturing customer relationships and helping guide the strategic growth of the bank and its people. Prior to joining Presence Bank, Doug spent more than two decades leading strategic growth with a focus on personalized customer service for individual and commercial banking in South Central Pennsylvania. Doug earned his BA in Business Administration from Millersville University and MBA from Lebanon Valley College. He also graduated from the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking with a Wharton Leadership Certificate. In addition, he completed the Certified Treasury Professional course at Villanova University. Doug serves on two Not-for-Profit Boards in the Lancaster and Chester County areas and will begin a three-year term as a board member of the PA Community Bankers Association in 2021. He was also named one of the region’s 40 Under Forty Outstanding Business Persons by the Central Penn Business Journal. Doug is a native of Lancaster County and currently resides in Colebrook with his wife, Tammy, and their two daughters.

As Chief Information and Operating Officer, Larry is responsible for developing and maintaining a robust and secure IT environment that ensures the bank is meeting changing customer needs, from product and service development to process and experience improvements. With more than 22 years of industry experience, Larry has managed bank operations and technology at various community banks, most recently serving as Director of Technical Services with a $17 billion asset institution in the Florida, Georgia, and Alabama markets. Larry is a graduate of the University of South Florida with a degree in Information Technology and is a member of the ISACA Harrisburg chapter for IT professionals. He recently relocated to Strasburg and lives with his wife, Kristin, and their four children.

Lindsay Bixler, CPA

As Chief Financial Officer, Lindsay is responsible for long-term strategic planning, financial analysis, budgeting, and overall accounting oversight. Prior to joining the team in May 2021, she most recently served as Senior Manager at RKL, LLP. Her experience spans more than 15 years in public accounting, having served as Senior Manager at BDO USA, LLP, and Manager at Parentebeard, LLC (now BakerTilly). Lindsay holds a BS in Accounting from The Pennsylvania State University and is a member of the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants, as well as the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She received the Central Penn Business Journal’s “Forty Under 40” award in 2019 and “Women to Watch” in 2012. She is a graduate of Leadership Harrisburg Area Community Leadership Series. Active in the community, Lindsay is Secretary for the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, a Bridges Society Member for United Way of the Capital Region, and a youth mentor for the Lebanon County Horse 4-H. Lindsay enjoys spending time outdoors with her husband and two sons, as well as showing and breeding paint horses.

William Sayre

Chief Credit and Risk Officer

As Chief Risk Officer, Bill is responsible for assessing and managing the risks facing the bank including credit, operational and compliance risks. Bill has over 35 years of industry experience in a variety of lending, credit and operational roles. Having just joined the Company in April 2022, Bill most recently served as the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Credit Officer for Atlantic Community Bankers Bank, having been employed there for the past sixteen years. His experience also includes senior lending and credit roles at Waypoint Bank and running the Corporate Banking division for PNC Bank in the Central Pennsylvania market. Bill has a BA from Hamilton College and extensive post graduate course work in accounting at Villanova University. Bill enjoys the country and the outdoors. He has a passion for education and pets residing with his wife, three dogs and four cats.

Joseph Carroll

Attorney

 

Joseph W. Carroll has served on the Board of Directors of Presence Bank since 2013 and as the Chairman of the Board since 2015. Mr. Carroll is a graduate of LaSalle College and Villanova School of Law. He was a member of the Chester County District Attorney’s Office for over 35 years in various capacities, including serving as Chester County District Attorney from 2002 until his retirement in 2012. He has been in private law practice since then. A lifelong resident of Chester County, Mr. Carroll has served on the boards of United Way of Chester County, The Crime Victim Center of Chester County and several other charitable organizations. He resides in Chester County with his wife, Barbara.

Spencer J. Andress, AICP

Planner

 

Spencer J. Andress, AICP has served on the Board of Directors since 2016 and as the Vice Chairman of the Board since 2018. Mr. Andress is the founder and President of Comprehensive Planners, LTD which provides land use planning and project management services to a wide variety of private and municipal clients. Mr. Andress is a U.S. Army veteran who retired with the rank of Chief Warrant Officer Five and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Physics from Lincoln University. He has been active in the Oxford community serving as a member of several organizations and in a number of elected and appointed local government positions.

Larry J. Constable

Retired Business Owner

 

Larry Constable has served on the Board of Directors of Presence Bank since 2013. He is an entrepreneur and visionary. In 1982, at the age of 18, he founded L.C. Auto Body Inc. After 36 years of successful automotive repairs with a stellar team and loyal customers, Larry sold his business to Abra Collision in 2018. Born and raised in Parkesburg, Pennsylvania, Mr. Constable graduated from Octorara High School and attended Delaware Community College. He resides in Chester County with his wife Sue. Mr. Constable has enjoyed a long history of participation on advisory boards for the training of youth in the collision industry through CCIU/CAT Brandywine. In 2001, he worked alongside others in the community to establish the Parkesburg POINT Youth Center, now located at 700 Main Street, Parkesburg, Pennsylvania. Mr. Constable passionately served as board chair and volunteered at the youth center for eight years. Continuing his love for people and his servant’s heart, he currently volunteers with an eternal focus teaching Sunday School, leading youth retreats, and heading up an after-school Good News Club.

Thomas R. Greenfield

Thomas R. Greenfield has served on the Board of Directors of Presence Bank since 1997. He was born and raised in Coatesville, Pennsylvania and still resides locally with his wife Nancy. His strong ties to the community are multi-generational, beginning with his mother. Mr. Greenfield worked in many industries over the course of his career, including steel, sales, real estate, and food services. Now retired, he was most recently self-employed as the owner of an antique lamp refurbishing company. Mr. Greenfield attended the Valley Forge Military Academy and earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology from Tusculum College. His community involvement includes the Big Brothers Program, and Sadsburyville Township Supervisor and Planning Commission.

John V. Pinno, III

Owner, Pinno Preowned Vehicles

 

John V. Pinno, III has served on the Board of Directors for Presence Bank since 1996. He spent his career of over 51 years in the automobile industry, with 27 years as a Pontiac-Buick dealer. Mr. Pinno sold his business in 2008, but continues to operate Pinno Preowned Vehicles at his former location in Oxford, Pennsylvania. He resides in Chester County with his wife, Elaine.

Chet Woolard, CPA, MBA

Senior Partner, Woolard, Krajnik, Masciangelo, LLP

 

Chet Woolard, CPA, MBA has served on the Board of Directors of Presence Bank since 2016. He has spent his entire career in the accounting profession, having earned the designation of the youngest manager in firm’s history at a regional Philadelphia CPA firm. Mr. Woolard is now a senior partner at Woolard, Krajnik, Masciangelo, LLP where he guided the firm from inception and six employees to present and 26 employees. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Waynesburg University and his Master’s Degree in Accounting and Taxation from LaSalle University. He is a member of American Institute of CPA’s, Pennsylvania Institute of CPA’s, and Affordable Housing Authority of Certified Public Accountants. He previously served the community in positions including Past Chairman of Municipal Services Commission for West Whiteland Township and Audit Committee Chairman and Director for Alliance Bank, and Professor of Auditing at West Chester University. Mr. Woolard remains active in the community as elected auditor of West Whiteland Township.

M. Joye Wentz

Owner, Wentz Funeral Home

 

M. Joye Wentz has served on the Board of Directors of Presence Bank since 1995. She is a licensed funeral director and since 1986, has been the third-generation owner of Wentz Funeral Home, started by her grandfather in 1894, in Coatesville. Joye has a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Delaware and a degree in Funeral Service from Northampton County Area Community College. Ms. Wentz is active in the community as a member and Secretary of the Rotary Club of Coatesville, the Strawberry Festival Steering Committee Advertising and Marketing Chair, Coatesville Area Senior Center Board, Coatesville Area Partners for Progress, the Western Chester County Chamber of Commerce, and the Pennsylvania Funeral Directors Association. Ms. Wentz is married to James F. Taylor; she has five children and eleven grandchildren.

Jane B. Tompkins

Retired Banker and Business Owner

 

Jane Tompkins has served on the Board of Directors of Presence Bank since 2020. She spent her entire career in the banking industry. She has worked in the regulatory environment as well as in banks of all sizes from super-regionals to small community institutions, with most of her time spent in lending, credit analysis and approval, and overall bank risk. Now retired, her most recent position was Chief Risk Officer at LINKBANK in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Elizabethtown College. Ms. Tompkins’ history of community service includes board positions with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, Harrisburg YWCA, Theatre Harrisburg, and the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area. She resides in the Harrisburg area with her husband, David.
